  A Gem From This Week's TMS

  before i get to the gem in this week's tms, let me let any of you newbies here up to date with us jdubs and schooling.

  in the february 22, 2002 watchtower, the wtbts released the article titled "how my dream was fullfilled".

  it was one of many typical jw stories of a good devout jdub "resisting temptation" and accepting the borg as absolute truth.

  Children of adult ex-jw's

  my wife and i were both jw's for the past 28 years.

  we left two years ago, we wrote our da letters and split.. my wife felt very contained, there was no room to grow.

  i started to fade slowly, but when my mom died, i saw the complete lack of love from the brothers and that sealed the deal for me.. we have two sons, 22 and 26, who we raised as witnesses, not the die hard type, just try and do your best.

  JW's Came to the Door

  boy she didn't know what she was walking into.

  it was a wealthy (she drove a lexus and was very well dressed) middle aged woman with a younger girl.

  she used the typical line this time of year asking if i knew where the origins of christmas came from.

  My last meeting at the Kingdom Hall. Here's how it went.....

  nothing spectacular but you may relate to some of my emotions.. it was nearly 5 years ago now.

  i had almost left twice before but changed my mind at the last minute.

  this time i knew it was for real.

  Later on I was told all sorts by my JW friends. The most cutting remark was being told that my actions showed that 'I didn't love my kids.' My kds are my life. How could anyone say this? An act of desperation on their part? Maybe. But deeply insulting.

  In my book this is the last thing a Christian would say to you.

  Your story has reminded me of how awful it all was. It's great hearing how someone else has managed to get away though.

  Has anyone ever had a 'Near Death Experience' ?

  i'm wondering if anyone here has had a "near death experience" or know of someone that has.

  as an example: such as floating above your body during your operation when the doctors 'lose' you and you make a decision to return back to your body even though the bright light and some voice tell you otherwise... .

  did it change you/them in anyway?.

  I thought I did but it was probably the effects of the morphine.

  In 2001 I had hip surgery and had requested no blood transfusion. My mum had come to visit and I remember looking at my hands and they were as white as the sheets on my bed. My sister-in-law arrived and I could hear the two of them talking but it was if I was floating off somewhere but then this big black woman wearing brightly coloured clothes was waving her finger at me and saying "it wasn't time yet". She was very jolly and was chuckling as she spoke to me.

  I floated back down and began to feel as though I was in the room again as blood started to be transfused.

  As I say having thought about it since it was probably the morphine causing me to hallucinate.

  Jehovah’s Witness Spouses

  i seriously doubt there's anyone with a spouse that's a jehovah's witness here.

  but if so, how do you absorb all the hateful rhetoric disseminated here without spitting it back in your spouses face?.

  My husband was a JW when we met and married. However, I am happy to say that we have now not been to a KH for two years this month.

  He never really wanted to be one anyway it was pressure from his mother so he was never pushy about anything and did not go out on FS or hand in a report.

  We have had to move house though to put it all behind us.

  do the jw'swant you to not associate non jw's

  my wife became a witness a few yrs after we had gotten married and i was wondering if the jw's believe that they should not socialize with people who are not jw's?i had some neighbors when i was younger and their kids who were close to my age said that that was their beliefs being witnesses.i ask my wife that and she says that isnt true.does it differ from congregation to congregation or is someone trying to cover up something?

  My husband was brought up in the faith. Neither him or his brother were allowed to go to grammar school or stay on at school past 16.

  In those days it was easier to find work without qualifications which my husband did. However,at the age of 25 he saw an opening for a trainee broadcast engineer and applied. He was accepted but the job was in London whereas he thought it would have been in Birmingham where he lived. However, because 1975 had been and gone his mother encouraged him to take the job.

  This meant moving over 100 miles from his parents which he said was the best thing that happened to him. The job involved a lot of training and he gained good qualifications so it meant he had a reasonable life. However, he is very bright and could have done so much better but he is luckier than many.

  His brother moved out in his teens took enough exams to get him to university and went. However, the relationship between him and his parents broke down for several years over this.

  Ironically though, their mother in her 50s went away to university and lived on campus!

  How Eco-Friendly is the Watchtower?

  i have plenty of anecdotal evidence of witnesses going through life with the attitude of "we'll just clean it up in the paradise.

  " i wondered if this kind of attitude was manifest in the bethel homes and factories.

  is recycling something that the watchtower engages in at its facilities?

  I have always thought that the publications should be printed on recycled paper. When I asked they said recycled paper was more expensive.

  Surely, as the bible is clear on the fact that God will bring to ruination those who ruin the earth this is against bible principles. They certainly make enough money to use recycled paper and they should lead by example.

  However, I too, have heard that when questioned along the lines of something like this they just reply "God will sort it out in the New World". What a get out.

  My mom to my daughter: "BD party might be fun but it will make Jah sad"

  we've allow a little freedom for my jw mom to visit our daughter at lunch at the school since we're df'd now.

  um, because we're idiots, maybe.

  so my daughter tells me this evening that she was chatting with mom at lunch today and mentioned a birthday party she's attending this weekend.

  I cannot believe that an adult would say such a thing to a child. IMO everyone is entitled to their own opinion on any subject but if anyone has anything to say it should be said to the parents, not children.

  However, if my husband had had children I am certain that his mother would say the same thing.

  Did you Fade Gradually or Stop Attending Meetings Quickly ? Reasons ?

  been thinking about this and curious about what makes us all come to the decisions we came to in our fade/exiting the jw organization.. i think for myself having been born-in & raised a jw my doubts about the generation doctrine had simmered for years within me quietly and by the time i finally left in 2003 i had reached my breaking point.

  also seeing unjust treatment of rank & file witness ( myself included ) just propelled me into my decision even quicker.

  so - one day after meeting with 3 elders in a back room before a meeting and seeing their judgmental aggression towards me - i just told myself " enough is enough ".

  Just checked with hubby again. He said he did nothing to be reinstated.

  On one of his mother's visits to his home she wanted him to take her to the meeting which he did. She got talking to an Elder and told him that her son wanted to be reinstated. The elder involved then told him that he would be reinstated.

  He said he never attended any meetings or such like as you describe.

  I wonder whether it was because it was such a long time after he was disfellowshipped? Also, the Elder rang the Elders at the congregation where he was disfellowshipped who confirmed that he hadn't really done anything to be disfellowshipped for.

  It is a strange story. However, feel free to ask any other questions as I will ask him and get back to you.

  He has registered on this site and intends to tell his story one day. He has called himself "Leper" for obvious reasons. He is busy renovating our new home at the moment!
